This quick-change rear end is actually a non-steering front.

That's okay. The steering is in the rear. Under the Buick straight-eight.

Linky.

Woah.

I assume it's to keep weight over the rear axle and off the front?

That seems like a terrible idea. Rear steering is dynamically unstable in the extreme.

think about how twitchy your car is in reverse ... I believe this car would be like that all the time .

Those people are building something they can actually drive though. You could only take this thing out on the road if you had an affinity for tasting guardrail.

Well, okay, but you miss the point. Say this was front steer - it would still be exceptionally rad, and the creator's other cars are front steer, after all, while being unique.

Also, I take exception to the claim many of those show queens do anything more than onto/off trailer and parades.

I'm guessing the engine doesn't run. Why bother, when this thing is going to be basically undriveable.

More a forklift, mostly, though put a low enough gear set in that quick-change and you'll tractor-pull the shit out of some things.

Monster trucks with rear steer beg to differ (at least at low-ish speed), and as far as I'm aware, it *does* run.

Shopping trolleys also have rear steer, but you wouldn't use either of them on the road.

That's fair. It is cool to see something unique built (I'd love to build a straight 8) ad while I certainly can admire this car's aesthetics, the design of this one is a bit too abstract to really be functional.

I never said it was practical: there's miles of distance between "possible to drive in theory" and "can be managed in any sane way above 10 mph". Anyway, there's no way it's less manageable than a forklift, as the forklift's got enough mass over the front tires to promote rotation around them - this... doesn't. Front wheel slip is likely to be enough, combined with a mass center so far back, to make it at least not thoroughly insane to move around.

No roads, but a front-wheel burnout and arrested launch at a runway might be fun.

It's not too far a step from practical to "fix", though that might ruin the point. Quick-changes are available in IRS setup (ready to go with half-shafts) that could be coupled to something like this with an existing beam axle+kingpins as a De Dion: only custom spindles required.

In fact, I suspect the only reason he didn't do that was that he already had so many things backwards that he decided to keep things consistent and just to hell with making it really really work. More of a thumb in the eye to boring that way.

I knew that a lot of these show cars were built with little consideration to actually accruing mileage.

This one seems to be purpose built to be antithetical to almost any kind of driving above parking lot speeds.

Indeed - I know exactly how sketchy forklifts can be at around %-7km/h, I don't want to drive anything at road speeds with rear steering, much less highway speeds.

Yep. This ought to ground-loop like bonkers.

[physics]

For stability, the center of mass must be ahead of the center of rotation. This one is entirely bass-ackwards.
